- Solve previous year papers to understand the difficulty and question trends.
- Attempt shift-wise mock tests โ normalisation means consistency matters.
- Revise regularly using short notes for formulas and GK facts.
Graduate Level vs Undergraduate Level: Which to Target
If you're a graduate, you're eligible for both the UG and Graduate level posts โ apply for both to maximize your chances, since they run as separate recruitment cycles with separate CBTs. The UG level (12th pass) has a larger vacancy pool and comparatively easier competition since it draws from a wider eligible pool, but the pay levels top out lower (Level 2-4). The Graduate level unlocks Level 5-6 posts like Station Master and Goods Train Manager, which carry meaningfully higher pay and faster promotion tracks โ worth the extra competition if you already have a degree.
Common Questions About RRB NTPC
Do all posts require a typing test? No โ typing/skill tests apply only to specific posts like Junior Clerk-cum-Typist and Commercial Clerk. Station Master and Goods Train Manager don't require typing.
How does shift-wise normalization work? RRB conducts CBT-1 and CBT-2 across multiple shifts on different days with different question sets. To ensure no shift is easier or harder, raw scores are converted to normalized scores using each shift's average and standard deviation before merit is calculated.
Can I choose my preferred zone? Yes, you rank RRB zones in order of preference during application, and posting is based on your normalized score, category, and zone preference โ similar to how RRB Group D works.
